United In Purpose
High Voltage is a successful and meaningful after-school program that entertains and, more importantly, teaches and trains students. This program allows students to unwind after the challenges of the school day. Structure, not chaos, is the key.
Playing music can heal trauma, improve mental health, and make students perform academically better.
According to a study from Northwestern University, neural processing was better in students who played a musical instrument than those who just listened to music. They found that playing music is a structured physical activity for the brain that yields enhanced memory, increased IQ, better listening skills and emotional maturity.
The High Voltage Youth Music program receives funding from private and corporate donors, sponsors, and federal agencies like the 21st Century Community Learning Centers grants program. This allows us to enhance schools that have had their funding cut and are left with limited funds for extra programs.
